FIRE DEPARTMENT ORGANIZATION

The Mashpee Fire Department was established in 1950. 
Ellsworth Peters was the first Fire Chief. 
The department moved into the old town hall on Route 130. 
The first engine was a used 1930 Ford bought from Centerville-Osterville. 
Mashpee bought a 1950 Dodge Engine 2 in 1950. 
A rescue squad was organized in the 1960s. 
A new fire station was built in 1979 off Route 151. 
The department renovated and added onto its headquarters fire station in 2002.
A second station was built in 2008 on Red Brook Road, New Seabury

MAJOR FIRES & INCIDENTS HISTORY

Fires and Incidents
1990 - April 14 - A 43 year old man died in a house fire at 20 Brewster Road at 0240 hrs.
1992 - Mar 21 -  Pickwicks Restaurant on Route 28 south of the Mashpee Rotary was destroyed in a spectacular 2 alarm fire.
1992 - Sept 14 - A cement mixer struck a car and both collided with a large tree on Route 130. A two year old child was trapped in the car for over an hour as Mashpee rescuers assisted by the Hyannis Heavy Rescue worked to extricate the mother and daughter who escaped serious injury.
1992 - Sept 19 - Firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions on arrival at the Summerwood Condos on Route 28.  3 alarms were struck as the fire extended to two of the six units in the occupied 2 story condo.  11 occupants were displaced, but no one was injured.
1994 - April 22 -  Two medflight helos responded to transport two of three patients involved in a two car headon MVA on Old Barnstable Road.  Two died.
